ABOUT US
(scroll down for FAQ's and below that are some fun pics of our dyes)

James Herndon is the artist and Jeanelle Myers is the business manager. James’ mastery of color can be attributed to a background in painting. He realized his love of this art form in high school and went on to receive a B.A. degree in painting from the Atlanta College of Art in 1986. He continues to be passionate about painting to this day. He first dabbled in tie-dyeing while touring with the Grateful Dead after college. In the winter of 2002 we started our screen printing business and not long after, James decided to tie-dye some of our screen printed tees and from there tie-dye took off as demand for it grew. We make our dyes in our basement and we use alternative energy sources ~ solar and wind power ~ in our home. We sell our dyes at numerous music and craft festivals throughout the year and our store in Rocky Mt., Virginia also keeps us busy.  Come by & see us~ it's at 305 Franklin St.

Many of the “blank” clothing that we dye comes from suppliers that partner with tailoring cooperatives in developing countries to ensure living, fair wages and safe and healthy conditions for the artisans and farmers employed by those cooperatives. We also get blanks from American Apparel which is a sweatshop-free clothing manufacturer based in Los Angeles.

We want to sincerely thank all of our customers for choosing to do business with us & helping us to live the way we do.  We really appreciate you!  Thanks!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q-1.  Will my tie-dye shrink when I wash it?
        A.
After the dyeing process we wash & dry each item so your tie-dye will already be pre-shrunk.

Q-2.  Will my tie-dye bleed when I wash it?
         A.
As part of our process we rinse our dyed items 4 times but James uses a lot of dye so some excess dye may still
come out.  So the first time you wash your tie-dye we recommend washing in cold water, alone or with other dark
clothing, and getting your tie-dye out of the washing machine as soon as the load is done.

Q-3.  Will my tie-dye fade?
         A.
As with all clothing, your tie-dye might fade after years of washing & drying.
We recommend line drying to increase the life span of your tie-dye as machine
drying is what wears clothes out.  Check out the testimonials page to see what
folks have said about the longevity of our dyes.

Q-4.  I am looking for something that I can't find on your website.
         A.
Contact us and we will let you know if we can get what you're lookin for.

Q-5.  What if I need more detailed info. on an item such as measurements or fabric quality?
          A.
We usually have more detailed info. than what is listed for most of the items
we carry.  Contact us with your questions or include them with your order.

Q-6.  What does 'fitted' mean?
         A.
When an item is described as 'fitted' it means it will fit snug & clingy if you order
               your normal size.

Q-7.  What if I am an adult buying a Jr. size?
         A.
Adults buying Jr. sizes should order one size up.  Example: if you normally wear
a medium you should order a large.

Q-8.  Why are some of your models faces blocked out?
         A.
We borrowed many of our pictures from the websites of the companies where
we get our 'blanks' from without the models permission so we had to make them
              annonymous.

Q-9.  Where did the names for your designs come from?
         A.
The designs are named after our dogs and our loved ones dogs, past and present.

Q-10.  Why could it take as many as 6 weeks to receive my order?
            A.
We try to keep costs to a minimum and we also have a festival/order cycle that goes like this:
we vend at a festival-> come home-> order more stuff for the next festival.
Here is an example of a
scenario that might take 6 weeks:
Lets say we just made an order from all our main suppliers and
that very day your order comes in.  Our next festival isn't for another 2 weeks so after that festival your item will be
ordered (we can't order it by itself because it costs too much to ship 1 or 2 items alone).   Your item happens to be
one we get from a supplier in California so it takes a week to arrive.  Then it has to be dyed and shipped to you.
This is an example of a perfect storm of the timing of your order but it rarely happens.

Q-11.  What's up with the Christmas order deadline?
         A.
We are a very small company (just the 2 of us... we can make it if we try...) and
some of the items that we dye
come from the west coast so we have to allow extra shipping time for those, and we like to ship orders out no later
than 1 week before Christmas so they're sure to make it under the tree in time.
So on the day of the deadline we
order blanks for all our Christmas orders, give them a week at most to get here, give ourselves a week to dye them,
and allow a week to get them to you.

Q-12.  How much would it cost for you to dye something I send you?
          A.
Prices will vary according to fabric thickness and dyeing difficulty but basic prices are
below. We prefer not to dye anything made with less than 80% of cotton, hemp, rayon
or other natural fiber.  Please contact us if you have a question about something not on
               the list.

Q-13.  Why do some of your items say "limited availability"?
           A.
We order from many different suppliers in order to offer a wide variety of items but we
use a few suppliers much more often than others.  The others have minimum order amounts,
usually of around $200 or more, so if you're interested in an item that comes from one of these
suppliers but we aren't planning to order from that supplier for awhile, sometimes we may not
be able to get you that item if we can't afford to order the minimum requirement just to
                get your one item.
